The NH Retail Association has a rich history dating back to 1966. 
 

  • Founding: The association was formed in 1966 with the primary purpose of protecting the rights of retailers at the state level of government.
  • Original Name: It was originally called the Retail Merchants Association of New Hampshire.
  • Mission: Since its inception, the association's mission has been to advocate for, promote, and support New Hampshire retailers.
  • Membership: The organization represents more than 300 businesses in New Hampshire, ranging from small independent business owners to national retailers.
  • Sales Tax Opposition: One of the association's founding principles was to oppose a sales tax in New Hampshire. This remains a key focus of the organization to this day.
  • Rebranding: In preparation for its 50th anniversary in 2016, the organization changed its name to the New Hampshire Retail Association, reflecting a more modern image.
  • Today, the NH Retail Association continues to serve as the "Voice of Retailing" in New Hampshire, representing the interests of its members before the State Legislature and various government agencies.
